My self painted Gas-Tank

My self painted Gas-Tank

Over the holiday season I had the gas-tank at home to give it a paint-job. At start I was not sure what to put on. After several sketches on my iPad I finally landed on a sketch/design I was happy with. So it was time to transfer the sketch on to paper and then on the gas-tank. The motive was clear. A rabbit had to be on the top. The only thing I was not sure was, if I should also put the lettering on it, with the bikes name "Rabbit Runner". At…continue reading →
Seventh update: Steering is tight

Seventh update: Steering is tight

Today Sebastian had a nice surprise for me. As I came to the shop to discuss the next steps he mounted a great handlebar on the bike. I immediately fell in love with the tight old-school look. I off course had to test it out, how it feels in the hand. So I took a seat on the bike, all though the real seat haven't arrived yet. The handlebar felt great. I was a very quick and easy decision to make. Above you can see yourself how it looks. Even when I had…continue reading →
Sixth update: Exhaust, Backlight & Kicker

Sixth update: Exhaust, Backlight & Kicker

Today I can even show three updates. The exhaust pipes are now mounted. The pipes got rerouted so it has a clean and straight look. The original look was not so great. After cutting the pipes to get a straight look only one piece needed to be added not from the original material. The back-light also arrived. The first idea I have was to have two light at either site. But since the bike is very narrow we haven't found a good position to fit the Swiss regulation. So it ended up to…continue reading →
Fifth update: Back-Fender in place

Fifth update: Back-Fender in place

Step by step we make progress with the Harley build. The back-fender was somewhat of a challenge. My idea was to have a duck-tail fender, fitted as tight as possible. Since I have an old-style tires on the rim, we needed a bit of a bigger distance from the tire to the fender. This because it can slightly inflate on the height while driving. The safety margin for an old-style tire is bigger than for a modern tire. But in the end we found a good solution (shown in the photo). Since the…continue reading →
Forth Update: Engine and Tank are in place

Forth Update: Engine and Tank are in place

After a longer period of silence I'm happy to give you an update on the status of my Harley-Davidson FXSTC from 1996. The Engine is back from the service shop. It should run smoothly again. I also change the rocker box on the top of the engine. Insider from Indian Larry's bike I went with a Knuckle-head on the back and Shovel-head on the front of the engine. I really love to look it has now. But have a look yourself. Also we have landed on the design of the fuel tank. It…continue reading →
Third update: Break disk, Kick-Starter gear box etc.

Third update: Break disk, Kick-Starter gear box etc.

Since the last update a few more parts have arrived. Today the break disk got mounted on the wheels. They are looking great. The break disk which I had before looked not great. They where too much closed. Meaning, they covered to much of the wheel. The ones I have now look so much better. You actually can see much more of the wheels/spokes. Also the kick-starter with the gear box have arrived. I never had a kick-starter before on my Harley's. So this is a first. I love the look of it.…continue reading →
Second Update: First fitment check on the Harley-Davidson custom project

Second Update: First fitment check on the Harley-Davidson custom project

Today we had a look how the Harley sits. We also looked at some parts how they look on the bike. With the new wheels and the original rear swingarm, the first thing we did was look at how the Harley stands. The goal is to keep it as low as possible, with the smallest possible suspension travel. We quickly saw that it needed to sit a little lower. This means that shorter front shocks are needed. The suspension travel will be very short. But it is not about comfort in the first…continue reading →
First update of the Harley-Davidson custom project

First update of the Harley-Davidson custom project

The feet (wheels) have arrived, yeah :-) Today the feet (wheels) for my custom Harley build arrived. This made me very happy. They look fantastic. It's an old classic look that I went for. Fits perfectly with the theme I have in mind for my Harley. When I talked to my mechanic Sebastian, I wasn't 100% sure how they would look on my Harley. But now that they are there, I am very happy and relieved. They look exactly how I envisioned them.Of course, before ordering the wheels, I show some pictures for inspiration…continue reading →
My Harley-Davidson customising project

My Harley-Davidson customising project

Let's get started! In 2020 I found a secondhand Harley-Davidson FXSTC from 1996. This will be the Harley I want to start my new customisation project. Since I was a small boy I had the dream to own and customise an old Harley. The FXSTC Harley was not a beauty. And the pre-owner made some strange customisations. But this was ok, since I want to have my own touch on it. It made my decisions to get rid of unwanted parts easier. This project will last for at least one year. I have…continue reading →
